Bay
Lake Tower
at Disney's Contemporary Resort
I
was apprehensive of staying the cold, metallic contemporary
resort. I am more of a warm, woodsy girl, but alas, I love
it at BLT! We were in the center of everything. I could see
each of the theme parks from our building, 3 from our balcony.
Crossing the skywalk bridge, which I thought would be a bother,
was actually pretty great, a little windy, but a touch with
the outdoors, shaded, and the views, I will never be able
to say enough about the views.
Our
greeter, Judy, at check-in, was so welcoming, hospitable,
and knowledgeable.
The
restaurants at Contemporary are some of the best in Disneyworld
The
Wave, by far, has the best breakfast buffet at Disneyworld,
and of course, the California Grill is notoriously one of
the best dinner spots available. Then, there is Chef Mickeys,
always a lot of fun with good food and characters. The counter
service, the Contempo Grill is pretty typical of resort counter
services, but with fewer snack selections, for example, I
couldn't buy my bottle of Diet Coke there, but I could at
the 'Market' just down the hall.
The
pools are just right. There's the noisy one with a little
slide and a big slide, and skirting fountains for the little
ones. It is a 'walk-in' pool, with plenty of room to swim,
adequate chairs, restrooms, and you can fill your resort mug
right there. Over at the Contemporary there is another pool,
a playground, a snack station, and, a very quiet adult pool.
There is also a very small beach, with a hammock, a few chairs
and fire pit. Disney does not allow swimming in Bay Lake,
but you can sit on the beach and enjoy the lake, and all the
wildlife that live there. Oh, and don't forget the Electrical
Water Pageant each evening on Bay Lake. Check with Guest Services
for the times.
We
had a studio at BLT, that was more than adequate, and very
comfortable. It had a small kitchen, space for our luggage
(we had to use the closet for some luggage but we have 2 sets
of golf clubs with us), a queen size bed with 5 or 6 pillows,
a flat screen tv, and balcony with a view of Bay Lake. On
the horizon we could see the Epcot's Spaceship Earth, Animal
Kingdom's Mount Everest and Tree of Life, and Studio's Water
Tower. From the hall where we catch the elevator, we could
see Magic Kingdom. I am sure Downtown Disney's balloon must
pop up somewhere out there, but I didn't get to see it.
One
evening, we went up to the 'Top of the World' lounge at BLT,
and watched the fireworks at Magic Kingdom complete with the
'Wishes' music and with drink in hand. That was pretty sweet!
I
have stayed at the 'world' many times, but BLT is the top
of my preference list now. I highly recommend staying at BLT
if you get a chance. It will be a magical experience.
Cindy Welch is a huge fan of Disney World and all
it has to offer. She practically raised her kids
there, and continues to visit at least once a
year. She is now a member of the Disney Vacation
Club.
